Description
Osmanthus fragrans is a plant of the Oleaceae family, an evergreen shrub that blooms between September and October. The golden osmanthus is called Jingui, the banana yellow is called Yingui, and there are also Dangui and Sijigui. In terms of elegant fragrance and edible value, Yingui is the best and has the largest number. Osmanthus fragrans contains about 0.3% volatile aromatic oil, with a pleasant aroma, and has the effects of calming pain, ventilating and strengthening the stomach.
Fresh osmanthus flowers are usually preserved by sugar or salt pickling. If the flowers are directly dried or baked, the essential oil will be lost too much and they will become almost fragrance-less flower residues. The pickled osmanthus flowers are widely used in a wide range of applications, such as osmanthus sour plum soup, osmanthus lotus seed soup, osmanthus lotus root powder, etc. Osmanthus tea is a specialty of Guilin. After tea is scented with fresh osmanthus flowers, it not only retains the true taste of tea, but also has a strong osmanthus tea aroma. After drinking, it has the effect of ventilating and soothing the stomach, and is very suitable for elderly people with weak stomach function.
