They are slender, flat, and slightly curved, just like small bamboo leaves.
origin
This special green tea, Zhuyeqing, originates from Mount Emei. Located in Sichuan Province, Mount Emei is one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China, and the first Buddhist temple in China was built there. Its stunning beauty and religious importance have inspired many poets and painters throughout history. This towering mountain has a subtropical monsoon climate and a subarctic climate, and is home to more than 5,000 species of plants and animals. Due to its cultural and natural significance, the Mount Emei Scenic Area was designated a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1996.
History of Bamboo Leaf Green
Mount Emei, surrounded by mist and clouds for most of the year, has a tea-producing history of more than 1,000 years. The nourishment of moisture and soil has created a series of famous teas, such as Emei Snow Bud, Emei Maofeng, and of course our Bamboo Leaf Green. Although as a famous Chinese green tea, Bamboo Leaf Green has a short history. It was not until 1964 that it was given this name.
Back then, former Foreign Minister Chen Yi visited Mount Emei. During his stay at the Wannian Temple, the monks offered him this tea. He was impressed by the taste and asked its name. The monks explained that it was a local tea with no name.
Chen Yi looked at the tea leaves and said that they were shaped like small bamboo leaves, and the taste reminded him of bamboo shoots. So he named the tea “Bamboo Leaf Green”.
The excellent quality of Zhuyeqing tea won it a gold medal at the 1985 International Food Expo and the first prize in the 6th “China Tea Cup” high-quality tea evaluation event held by the China Tea Association in 2005.
