Lichuan Kung Fu Black Tea, also known as Lichuan Red, has a long history of more than 2,800 years in Lichuan, Hubei. According to historical records, tea farmers in Lichuan began to grow tea as early as the Western Zhou Dynasty, and tea planting technology reached its peak in the Qing Dynasty.
The emergence of the Lichuan Gongfu black tea we know today can be traced back to the mid-19th century. The area is high in mountains and densely forested, which is an ideal environment for the growth of tea trees.
Lichuan gained national attention in 2018 when Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian President Narendra Modi drank Lichuan Kung Fu Black Tea during the Wuhan Summit. Today, the tea is considered one of the top Kung Fu Black Teas in China.
Production and appearance of Lichuan Red
The production of Icheon black tea requires the careful hand-picking of fresh tea leaves during the golden season of spring. These tea leaves undergo processes such as withering, rolling, fermentation and drying. The tea leaves produced are slender, firm, flat, and uniform in appearance, with golden tips visible.
After brewing, Lichuan black tea presents a bright golden red color, with a rich and lasting aroma, and a sweet and smooth taste, which makes people feel very pleasant.
Similar to our Enshi Yulu Green Tea, Lichuan Black Tea is known for its health benefits and rich selenium content.
