Zhengshan Souchong is a very famous type of black tea, also known as Lapusan Souchong abroad. It and Waishan Souchong are collectively called Souchong black tea.
Zhengshan Xiaozhong is produced in Tongmuguan, Xingcun Township, Chong’an County, Fujian Province, China. Zhengshan Xiaozhong is the earliest black tea in the world. Gongfu black tea was developed on the basis of Zhengshan Xiaozhong. It was created by Han tea farmers deep in Wuyi Mountain, Fujian Province in the middle and late Ming Dynasty. Later, Gongfu black tea was developed on the basis of Zhengshan Xiaozhong. After the Opium War, due to its fame, there was competition, so the name of Xingcun Xiaozhong black tea was changed to Zhengshan Xiaozhong black tea.
Zhengshan Xiaozhong has a history of more than 400 years in China. The fresh leaves of Zhengshan Xiaozhong are picked and smoked and baked with pine needles or pine wood. Because of the smoking process, the dry tea of ??Zhengshan Xiaozhong is gray-black in color, but the tea soup is bright red.
In the early 17th century, Dutch merchants introduced Zhengshan Xiaozhong to Europe, which attracted the attention of the British royal family. British afternoon tea also originated from this.
The tea leaves of Zhengshan Xiaozhong dry tea are slender and firm, gray-black in color with an oily sheen. After brewing, they are fragrant, with a bright red soup and a long-lasting aroma.
